Vehicle Electronic Interface VEI

The “Vehicle Electronic Interface”, briefly VEI device, has a central function in what is known as the Test Bench Wiring concept of Daimler AG. In connection with a part of the original ECUs the Vehicle Electronic Interface VEI replaces in test benches the original cable harness installed into the vehicle. The physically not existing ECUs in the test bench are simulated by the integrated residual bus simulation. Essentially, this refers to the Common Powertrain Controller CPC or the drive control FR existing in the vehicle, but not installed into the test benches.
Power supply for the ECUs as well as connection of the necessary terminals of the on-board electrical system is made via the Vehicle Electronic Interface VEI. An important aspect of the Vehicle Electronic Interface VEI is the easy implementation of a standalone operation of DUTs at external service providers like university institutes or the mineral oil industry.

Main features:

  • Restbus simulation on commercial vehicle test stands
  • Support of Truck-Trailer CAN according to ISO 11992 and 5V CAN according to ISO 11898
  • Voltage control and power supply of the connected control units via parameterizable, fused outputs
  • Gateway between test stand automation system (EtherCAT®, PROFIBUS®) and control units (CAN)

Advantages:

  • Short setup time due to electrical and mechanical codes cable sets
  • Operation in the test chamber due to protection class IP54

TBW Trolley
TBW Trolley

TBW Trolley

The TBW trolley was developed for the mobile use even without test bench automation system, also enabling an independent operation of the components installed in the test bench. The trolley has large casters which allow easy maneuvring of the switch cabinet. The cabinet can be operated on every 230V/50Hz grounding-type receptacle. Essential components of the trolley are:

  • DC power supply unit 24V DC as on-board electrical system supply “Konstanter”
  • Control panel
  • Engineering Interface Panel EIP2
  • Vehicle Electronic Interface VEI
  • 2 drawers for wiring harnesses and accessories
  • Wiring harnesses to connect control units
  • Rear side mounting plate with customer interfaces and safety control
SIM Automation Box

SIM Automation Box

If the SIM Automation Box, available as accessory, is connected to the Engineering Interface Panel EIP, the VEI device can be operated without test bench automation. The automation box emulates the analog / binary interface of the automation system.

Test Bench Automation with Hybrid Interface

Connection of VEI devices in their EtherCAT®-Master variant to test bed automation systems is MADE via the Engineering Interface Panel EIP. The Engineering Interface Panel EIP converts the analog/binary hybrid interface of the Fast-Front End Modul Controllers type F-FEMCON from company AVL LIST GmbH to the Ethernet based fieldbus EtherCAT®.
